Delivery: 8th Jan

How was the session delivered?

I was impressed by the attitude and approach I saw demonstrated by Lindsey Jordan and James Wisdom. They were extremely open to input, advice and conflicting opinions and beliefs from us, their students.

Lindsay was transparent about issues or problems encountered and actively invited input. This reinforced our roles and what was expected of us – that we are and need to be active participants and contributors in what is going on. It also communicated the fact that our knowledge, experience and opinions were of value.

James made it clear that statements and conclusions in his lecture were his interpretation of facts and only one viewpoint of many. He also regularly called on us to challenge and think critically about what he was saying and any material that we encounter. This echoed Lindsay’s behaviour in reinforcing the idea that all students should not receive information passively, that we needed to play and active role in our own learning.

What can I learn?

The effect of this attitude and approach from a student point of view. How important it is.

How can I apply what I’ve learnt?

Continue to practice this approach as a teacher even when it is complex to do or in a challenging situation. Also, to defend and advocate for this approach with confidence when colleagues say that it can open up more problems.
