I discussed some key themes from my analysis with my Course Leader (A) and Programme Director (B), to help me work out how to translate my learning into practice. The discussion itself was also intended to kickstart this process in itself.

Trust Building

Through vulnerability – sharing experience, problems, feelings – positive and negative

Different group sizes give different levels of vulnerability

This seems like an obvious statement and yet at the same time it is not the way everyone operates

Seeming vulnerability that is not what is presented as true – False ideas around what vulnerability is

Trust created by continuing to teach In management positions. In this case, shared experience and concerns.

Culture of Value

Through gratitude

I find this hard to do – it makes me uncomfortable to talk about it but in a good way

I feel I do this and make an effort to do it.

Need to do this more

It’s good to hear that you have observed this and think that there is a habit of this already that can be grown.

I can think of meetings, even this week, where this type of thought was not practiced

The work we’ve done lately with meetings has improved this I think?

Example – Programme-wide curriculum development meeting

People expressed strong feelings – wanted to pre-empt and get this feeling out

Trusted that we would be able to have that conversation

That people would be able to say what they felt to each other, things like ‘I feel threatened.’

In response to certain issues people were experiencing the Kubler-Ross cycle in real time

Delegation is key

Ownership is also important

Different powers described are at play at different times.

Power to and within – after meetings and carried and reinforced in structures

Clarity needed, confusion an issue
